Amazon’s Dark Tower Series: Sam Strike and Marten Broadcloack Have Been Cast.

Amazon's Dark Tower

Amazon’s Dark Tower series has just been percolating along for about a year or so now, and were finally getting a clue about the cast of the Epic mega series of books by the King of the Corn, Stephen King.  And before we go any further, chill out.

We get it. People hate The Dark Tower with Idris Elba. For the same reasons that gnaw away at all films based on a Stephen King Novel—and on good grounds. It didnt stick to the damned books in any way other than sharing some vocabulary words. And as a result, it was pretty, but it sucked. And we don’t know why people take such license with his writings.

Not every arrogant movie retelling of a King novel ends up being a film classic like The Shining.

And its really too bad, because honestly, Elba was a pretty solid casting choice.  But the tentative film franchise launch fizzled (honestly—the storytelling was awrful) And now everybody’s all gunshy, if you will pardon the pun.

Well, tremulous fans of Stephen King’s epic Dark Tower series can ease off the triggers,  because apparently everyone is going to just pretend that the film didnt really happen and just cold start over.

Deadline is reporting that Amazon has cast Sam Strike (Leatherface) as Roland Deschain, aka The Gunslinger and hero of the Dark Towerseries.  He’s been a series regular on SyFy/Netflix’s show Nightflyers—based less sensationally on the George R. R. Martin novella. He got his start on EastEnders but hes played some pretty meaty horror roles as well.

Here is Strike talking about creating another iconic character, Leatherface:

The series’ compelling villain, Marten Broadcloack (The Man in Black, Walter Padick, etc.) will be portrayed by Jasper Pääkkönen of BlacKkKlansman & Vikings.

Check out his unhinged performance in the famous lie detector test scene from BlacKKKlansman.

One of the former Walking Deadshowrunners , Glen Mazzara, is heading the production team and will be walking past the 2017 film in silence. According to Deadline, the Amazon series will be “a more faithful retelling of the boo than the movie was…will focus on Roland Deschain’s origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the Man in Black, his first love (Susan Delgado) and his first mission as a gunslinger.”

Which: Great. We are here for it.
